12 Businesses Evacuated Due to Gas Leak

pcfd.org

The Park City Fire District evacuated 12 businesses on Iron Horse Drive after a gas leak.  Firefighters told people to avoid the area until 5 p.m. Wednesday while responders got the situation under control. KPCW’s Melissa Allison has more:
A company doing utility work near 1260 Iron Horse Dr. Tuesday night bore a five-inch hole into the ground across the street from the Windy Ridge Cafe.  They unwittingly hit a gas line and when they returned Wednesday  they discovered they hit a main line.

While the tool they used seemed to have plugged the pipe overnight, Park City Fire District Public Information Officer Tricia Hurd Hazelrigg said the leak was significant.'

“Police and fire were called in just because there was a gas leak," Hazelrigg said. "So, when they investigated, they found they hit a main line. They did some investigative work to see the extent of the area and ended up evacuating – like a 70-foot perimeter which the captain on scene indicated was approximately a dozen businesses that have been evacuated while they worked to secure that line.”

In order to secure the line, Hazelrigg said they have to drill down underneath the concrete in a couple of places to crimp the line.

The Park City Police Department set up a perimeter and blocked traffic on Iron Horse between Bonanza Drive and Shortline Road.

Hazelrigg said the captain on-scene anticipated the area would remain evacuated until about 5 p.m.  Wednesday.
