49th Annual Kimball Arts Festival Is Here

KPCW

The Kimball Arts Festival is back this weekend. The main street event has been labeled a ‘Can’t miss summer festival’ by Smithsonian Magazine.

The 49th annual Kimball Arts Festival kicks off Friday evening with free entrance for locals. Communications Director Amy Roberts gives a run-down of the weekend.

“Take the bus, ride your bike, walk up. There’s just not very much parking, as we all know, on Main Street. Artists take up what is available. The second thing is that if you’re a Summit County local bring your I.D. or proof of residency in Summit County and you’ll get in for free.” Roberts continued, “Your wristband will only be good for Friday night. Should you wish to come back Saturday and Sunday, and we certainly hope you do, you will need a wristband for the weekend. Those are right now available on our website at the discounted price of $12. If you buy them at the gate they increase to $15.”

Fridays hours are 5:00 pm to 9:00. The festival opens again Saturday morning and runs the full day from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, On Sunday the festival starts at 10:00 am and ends at 6:00 pm. Roberts says the Kimball is bringing over 200 artists to this year’s festivities.

“We have over 225 juror selected artists. It’s a blind jury selection which helps to keep the quality of art and artists up. It’s very exciting.” Roberts said, “I do want to remind people as well, this is a fundraiser. It’s our biggest fundraiser. I know as a local sometimes people feel like ‘oh I’ll just go conveniently check my mail at the post office’ or try to sneak in. I just want people to remember that the funds from this event do help us keep art in the public schools.”

Roberts says they’ll have food, drinks and entertainment.

“Five food trucks up there, and a couple of new ones. They’ll be up in the Wasatch Brew Pub lot. Three different beer gardens I believe. The Vida Tequila lounge and they are going to be making a special Marg-ART-ita and those are available for $8 each and all of the money goes to support Kimball Arts Center.” Roberts explained, “We’ve partnered with Mountain Town Stages. Ryan Richards has put together over 30 musical acts and we’ve got three stages. So, you will not be bored.”

The Kimball will also be continuing their festival after dark.

“The Festival After Dark is a partnership with local arts and culture non-profits. We’ve partnered with Sundance, they’re going to show their movie in the park at dusk on Saturday night. The symphony that plays at the Deer Valley.” Roberts said, “(Park City Institute’s) concert which is at City Park this Sunday night. So, after the festival when it ends at 6:00 on Sunday stroll on down if you like. There’s also at OP Rockwell a Grateful Dead cover band playing, (on) Friday night, and they have a deal that if you show your wristband you can get $5 off your ticket.”

Roberts says they have access passes for those who work or live in Old Town.

“We don’t have parking passes, but we do have access passes for people who live in Old Town, and who work in Old Town. All of that information is also available on our website. We have it on our Facebook page as well.” Roberts continued, “We have been working to get it out through neighborhood apps and through (…) Main Street Business Alliance is helping us push that message. If you have any questions you can just call the Kimball Arts Center and come pick up your parking access pass or your festival access pass if you’re working on Main Street.”
