5 Northern Utah Moose Shot Dead In 3 Days

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources says five moose were illegally shot dead earlier this month in northern Utah.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that investigators believe it was the work of poachers acting separatly over three days in Summit and Wasatch counties.

Some were shot at close range by high-powered rifles. Witnesses watched two of the shootings but couldn't identify the hunters.

The Utah Division of Wildlife is asking the public for help solving the Oct. 5-7 shootings.

Moose hunting is closely regulated in Utah. The official deer hunt starts Saturday, and officials expect it to bring out more than 60,000 hunters.
