Bishop To Face McAleer In 1st District In Rematch

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Six-term Republican U.S. Rep. Rob Bishop has breezed past a challenge for his party's nomination and will face Democrat Donna McAleer a general election in rematch from two years ago. 

It took McAleer two rounds of votes to get enough support from the delegates Saturday at the Democratic convention get past physician Peter Clemens and avoid a primary. The business executive received 66% of the votes in the second round. 

Bishop easily defeated relatively unknown David - Yu Lin Chiu getting 81% of the votes of delegates at the nominating convention in Sandy.

McAleer was the Democratic nominee in 2012, but lost by 46% to Bishop in the general election.

The 1st Congressional District includes the northeastern parts of Utah, including Ogden and Logan.
