Summit County has hired a new director for the Children’s Justice Center.
The county announced in a press statement Thursday that the new director is Christie Hind, who has lived in Park City with her family since 2016.
She will be working under the County Attorney’s office, in a new child-friendly, state-of-the-art facility on the west side of the Silver Summit Interchange. As a critical first step in investigating child abuse cases, the Justice Center provides a neutral environment where children can be interviewed by professionals from law enforcement, mental health agencies, and other entities.
The press statement said that Hind brings 25 years of legal and nonprofit experience to her new job.
County Attorney Margaret Olson told KPCW in an e-mail that Hind originally trained as a public interest lawyer in New York. In that city, she worked with the Center for Constitutional Rights on behalf on Burmese victims of sex trafficking.
After moving to Los Angeles, she clerked for a federal judge and worked in major law firms. In the areas of social justice and public advocacy, she was board chair of an education reform group in L.A. and handled guardian ad litem cases in Children’s Court.
Olson wrote that they had an outstanding pool of applicants, over 30 people. She said the CJC Advisory board helped to screen, vet and interview the contenders.
In the press statement, Hind said, “There is incredible competence and empathy within Summit and the community as a whole—my hope is that I can play an important part in helping advance a future where abuse on any level is no longer tolerated.”
