The Dollar Ridge Fire has burned 52,000 acres in Wasatch and Duchesne counties. Some rainfall Sunday helped decrease the fire, it also gave fire fighters an opportunity to suppress the fire. Containment of the fire has jumped to 35%.
Crews focused on the area north of highway 40. The highway is now open although U-DOT asks that drivers slow down, to 35 mph near milepost 50 and keep traffic flowing.
This evening crews will hold a public meeting at Duchesne High School. The meeting starts at 7:00pm and can be streamed at www.channelv6.com
The meeting will not address structure damages caused by the fire. Investigations are underway now and information will be shared with homeowners within a few days.
Today’s weather forecast is similar to Sundays. This means crews might be aided by rain, although high winds could also keep firefighters from attacking the flames from the air.
Over 800 personnel are working to extinguish the fire. An estimated containment date is July 20th.
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands say the Dollar Ridge fire spread quickly due to the steep terrain and high winds.
The fire started on private property. The division says the fire was human-caused.
