Criminal Charges Against Andrew McLean Prompts Black Diamond To End 25 Year Relationship

"Skip" Roberts

The other shoe is dropping for Andrew McLean who is well-known in the outdoor industry as an extreme skier, photographer and hiker. After he and his wife, Park City Assistant Attorney Polly Samuels McLean were arrested on September 6, one of his sponsors dropped him as an ambassador. Melissa Allison explains:

Black Diamond officials were confused when they received a handful of angry emails that were vague enough they didn’t know what the senders were talking about, but angry enough that the outdoor equipment business became concerned.

When one of the emails included a link to the Facebook thread which “Skip” Roberts asked his fellow hunters for help in finding the people who took his equipment, Black Diamond learned that their paid ambassador, Andrew McLean, had been arrested and facing two counts of felony theft and vandalism. To add to the damage – it was against the hunting community that Black Diamond serves.

Black Diamond said it has ended its 25 year relationship with Andrew McLean.

McLean and his wife, Park City Assistant Attorney Polly Samuels McLean, were photographed on a trail camera set up by the hunter whose equipment they allegedly took on September 1st.

KPCW has reached out to both McLeans for comment but they have not responded.

Tetongravity.com reports they spoke to Andrew McLean who told them, quote, “All I can say [is] that I made a serious mistake, am doing everything possible to make it right and that I have no excuse for it,”

KPCW reached out to Black Diamond for comment but no one was available. However, the company has removed McLean’s name and other related items from their website and branding.
