Deer Creek Fire has burned 381 acres and is 20% contained.
The fire is located south of the Deer Creek Dam up Provo Canyon.
Public Information Officer Leann Fox says the fire started around noon on Wednesday and raced up the hill side.
“It was driven by weather and terrain, they got air resources on it very quickly. Then later some thunder clouds moved in and put quite a bit of moisture on the fire, it really helped the situation out.”
The rain storm started around 4:00 pm, after the rain fall crews went back out to continue working.
“There were some hot spots still going and some heat coming off the fire, (…) the rain definitely helped suppress a large chunk of the fire but there is still some heat up there, that crews are continuing to work on.” Fox said.
Yesterday, witnesses were able to see active flames from the road. Fox says the fire has moved so the flames are no longer visible to the public.
“On the back side (…) the fire is down in that thicker timber, that is still active. They are working to put lines around that and work through those hotspots,”
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State lands is investigating the cause of the fire. KPCW has heard reports from people on hand that the Heber Creeper might have caused the flames.
“We don’t know what caused it, we are investigating all possible causes. I do know the railroad goes through that property. So that is one avenue they are investigating.” Fox said.
Today a crew of nearly 100 will try and limit the spread of the fire on the north side.
Firefighters have closed the Cascade Springs road.
Meanwhile the Dollar Ridge fire is now at 60% containment, the fire in Eastern Wasatch County and western Duchesne county has burned nearly 57 thousand acres.
