Deer Valley and Park City Municipal To Experiment With Transit Monday Night

Eric Morgensen

Deer Valley and Park City Municipal are preparing to host the 2019 FIS World Championships. Part of that preparation includes trying out some new transportation methods.

On Monday, Miners Day, The Deer Valley Concert Series will be hosting Jason Mraz at their Snowpark Amphitheater. Following the conclusion of the show, concert goers will be part of an experimental effort to reduce traffic impacts. Park City Special Events Manager Jenny Dierson explains.

“In partnership with Deer Valley we are going to be trying some new transportation mitigation measures, this is during the egress of the event. We’ve been talking for a while. Specifically after last year’s world cup and in planning for the 2019 World Championships; both Deer Valley and the city need to take some measures to help try to decrease travel times after the event and to also expedite transit and make sure residents can get home in that area.”

Dierson explains that the goal is to give public transit priority, reduce travel time for all, and have minimal impacts on residents.

“The gist of it is that cars leaving the parking lots will need to turn right out of the lots and then transit will be traveling the other direction, opposite of those vehicles, to try and keep both flows of traffic open and moving. Whether you’re going home and you live in Deer Valley or if you’re attending that concert from 8:00 to about 10:00 at night just be aware that there will be some increased transportation measures. Follow signs. Know that there will be some people in the roads directing traffic and assisting customers as their leaving or visitors and residents in that area. So just pay attention on Monday night if you’re up in Deer Valley.”

Dierson says that this pilot program will be a learning opportunity for the city and Deer Valley ahead of the 2019 FIS World Championships.
