The International Ocean Film Tour Joins The Park City Film Series Saturday Night Drive-In

parkcityfilmseries.org

The Park City Film Series features the International Ocean Film Tour’s showing of seven short documentaries for their third annual drive-in movie night. Melissa Allison has more:

The drive-in will take place at Prospector Square in Lot K. Director Katy Wang said its going to be a great night despite the construction on Prospector Ave.

“Locals know there’s some construction on Prospector Ave.,” Wang said. "So its one-way only going west. If you come down Sidewinder Dr., you can take a right past the Marriot on Poison Creek and then you’re first right, of course, onto Prospector Ave. and then the lot is just going to be right there on your right-hand side. So, encouraging people people to take a little extra time. The lot will open at 7 o’clock and then we can load in, you can bring your hibachi grills and do a little tailgating like we had last year, it was pretty awesome. It’s a really fun night.”

Though the film won’t start until dusk, live music will be provided by Ryan Walsh.

The evening includes the showing of the International Ocean Film Tours seven short documentaries.

Producer Henry Lystad said the films are not rated but all are family friendly and sure to appeal to everyone.

“So they are licensed films that we search for over the course of the year and put together in a very well-produced, dramatic fashion we hope, that everybody enjoys,” Lystad said. “We kick it off, not to give too much away, but we kick it off with a really exciting seven-minute piece on big wave surfing off the Portugal and Nazari, so it starts off with a real bang.”

Lystad said the drive-in event is a first for the film tour.

“We screen all over the world,” Lystad said. “We’re in eight countries in Europe, we’re all over Australia, we’re in North America and most of the time we are indoors. We have several outdoor screenings throughout the year, but this is very unique. It’s the first drive-in concept that we’ve participated in. When I first started working with Katy on this idea, I was drawn in automatically with the outdoor concept and being in Park City in august – its going to be a beautiful evening.”

Wang said they started the event in Prospector Square to help the local restaurants.

“There’s some great restaurants, there’s a great little community over there and just draw a little bit more attention to that part of town,” Wang said. “Particularly now with the construction, you know we’ve certainly heard about the impact on some of the restaurants and we want to encourage people to come out and frequent them and patronize them during the drive-in and maybe come back later on. So, we’ll have some discounts to local restaurants that will be available that night and then for the month following the drive-in movie. Come on over, we’re not going to sell concessions so, bring your picnic basket, go to a local restaurant and bring it on over for the movie.”

There are 35 parking spots for cars with a premium charge for front row. Tickets are $15 per person and for those who want to just sit in the open, there will be about 100 seats provided for purchase as well.

Tickets can be purchased online at parkcityfilmseries.org.
