Summit County Council Chairwoman Weighs-In On Bus Concerns

Image From Summit County's Website

The chair of the Summit County Council Kim Carson says they’ve been planning to meet with Park City representatives to discuss, among other things, the bus system operated by both entities. However, the topic was highlighted this week when a county council member talked about his futile efforts to use the bus.

Council member Roger Armstrong briefly reported Wednesday to his colleagues that he ran into problems trying to catch a bus from his home in Park Meadows to get to Deer Valley.

Carson said that certainly, he spoke out of frustration. She said although she lives in Silver Creek, which has no bus service, she’s been able to drive to Kimball Junction and us the electric express bus.

“We’ve looked up on the app and found where the bus is supposed to be, and it’s been there when we’ve expected it. We’ve had excellent service. We primarily ride it if we’re going up to Main Street. It’s worked incredibly well every time. Maybe some if it’s just been luck but we ride it often, and we’ve had a good experience. It is important that we also have those connections from our neighborhoods to either the electric express route or to one of our transit centers.”

She said the bus system has evolved in recent years.

“Park City has been an amazing partner in the transit arena with Summit County, but this has progressed over years. It used to be that it was really Park City, they were the main routes and they had routes coming out to Kimball Junction. As the transit system has expanded we really haven’t ever gone back and looked at the management structure to see what is going to best serve the residents of Summit County. And I’m including all municipalities in that.”

Carson noted the last review, from their county attorney, was about two years ago.

“We may find that the current structure is the right structure. I know there’s been some turn-over in the city’s transit department. We’ll be having those conversations with them, on taking a look. I know back in 2016, Dave Thomas said we had looked at our agreement with them, but no changes took place at that time. We just need to have that discussion again and see what we can do to make sure we are providing the best service possible.”
