Summit County Sheriff's Office Deals With Fraud, Unwanted Visitors

The activity over the past week for Summit County Sheriff deputies included a reported fraud case--and multiple instances of some unwanted visitors to residences and a business.

Last week, the Sheriff's Department received a complaint from an Ogden resident. After living with family for a year, she said she bought a residence in Roy, and was attempting to transfer the utility account she had been paying from her old residence to her new house.

Then she was informed by Rocky Mountain Power that an account was active in her name, traceable to an apartment in the Snyderville Basin, complete with her date of birth, Social Security number and phone.

The complainant said she has never lived in this area. The power company closed the account in Park City. According to Sheriff's Lt. Andrew Wright, Summit County deputies went to the condo, at Kimball Junction, but weren't able to find anyone at home. The case is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Department reported they had a few cases of what you might call Goldilocks Syndrome.

Last Friday night, a resident on Kilby Road reported that a man was inside her apartment and refusing to leave. She reported he was the brother of her ex-boyfriend. Deputies who responded found the suspect had kicked open the front door to gain entry.

They found him sitting on the couch, apparently under the influence, and was found with meth and drug paraphernalia. The suspect, a 29-year-old male from Park City was booked into the county jail.

In another case, on Saturday, a woman living near the Redstone area of Kimball Junction found an unknown male had entered through her unlocked front door and was sleeping in her bed.

The report said the suspect, a 22-year-old Park City resident, showed signs of impairment. The deputies reported his mother lives in the area and he apparently thought he was in her residence. He was taken into custody on several charges.

Finally, on Sunday, deputies found two transients camped out in a business complex, near the Jeremy Ranch convenience store. The male, a 56-year-old Salt Lake resident, was arrested after deputies found he had several warrants out for him. The woman had a large amount of clothing and made inconsistent statements on how she got the items. But she was released since deputies couldn't determine that a crime had occurred.
