'Thriller' Is Back At The Egyptian Theatre

Odyssey Dance Theatre

Odyssey Dance Theater’s Thriller is back for it’s 23rd year. The spooky, silly show opens the Egyptian Theater this weekend.

Artistic Director of Odyssey Dance Theater Derryl Yeager says the company looks forward to putting on the show each fall.

“It’s just such a fun show. I think that one of the things people really love about it is there’s so much humor in the show. Granted, some of its pretty sick Halloween humor but its humor nonetheless. I think they have a great great time coming and they like to come back year after year. It’s a series of vignettes, Thriller is our opening number and so its not a Michael Jackson show. It’s just the opening number where Michael Jackson decided that zombies have to dance so we have zombies that dance that’s the opening number. From there we go into a series of vignettes of all your favorite Halloween characters. You’ve got Frankenstein dancing with the Bride of Frankenstein, you’ve got the curse of the Mummy, you’ve got the Jason jam where you’ve got three Jason’s who are dancing with ice picks and machetes and chainsaws. Obviously one of the favorites is the Dem Bones piece which is the tap-dancing skeletons. It’s a real great show to get in the mood for Halloween and have a great time.”

Yeager says the show plays well at the intimate Egyptian Theater, he also suggests that those who come to the show be at least 8-years-old.

“There are some scary elements we do have zombies roaming the aisles and hallways and stuff like that. Kids eight and above usually enjoy it. One of the things I love is to hear eight- and nine-year old’s laughing their heads off at these Jasons. Because there’s one Jason that didn’t quite graduate from Jason school. He’s a little ADD and the kids really get the humor because they’re thinking ‘well I know Billy, he’s just like that in my class.’ They really get the humor and its really fun to hear that.”

The show opens at the Egyptian this Friday, September 21st and runs through the weekend. The show continues, Thursday September 27th through Sunday the 30th and Wednesday October 3rd through Sunday October 7th.
