UHSAA Proposed Realignment Would Move Park City High Up A Division In Prep Sports

Utah High School Activities Association

The Utah High School Activities Association has proposed their re-alignment for prep sports for the 2019-2021 school years. The re-alignment would see two Wasatch Back schools competing in divisions with higher enrollment.

The UHSAA expanded to six sports divisions at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. The association reviews school enrollment every two years and re-aligns the divisions that schools compete in. In the activity association’s first proposal for the 2019-2021 alignment Park City high school would move from region 11 in the 4A division to region six in the 5A division, meaning Park City will compete against schools with higher enrollment. No other schools in the Wasatch back would change divisions for non-football sports.

The Utah High School Activities Association does have separate divisions for football. In the proposed re-alignment Park City would remain in the 4A division, while South Summit would move up to the 3A division in football.

A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday December 5th at 6:30 pm at Jordan High school in Sandy. The UHSAA board is seeking feedback from districts, schools and community members on the placement of schools. They are also seeking feedback online. The school assignments will be finalized on December 6th.
