Park City's EpicPromise Chairs for Charity event takes place at the Kimball Art Center December 8 – 10.
What is Chairs for Charity?
When Park City took down the Motherlode chair lift this summer, they kept a few chairs to help support local nonprofits. Over the last several weeks, 18 Park City nonprofits, including KPCW, have teamed up with local artists to create a work of art out of their chair. All of the chairs will be auctioned off at a private event on December 10. KPCW's artists are Park City-based Bill Kranstover and Malia Denali.

ARTISTS' STATEMENT
Title: “Air Waves”
Material: Found Metal Objects
The design for this chair was commissioned by Park City-based radio station, KPCW. Our station’s fervid and enduring community action, coupled with a beloved slogan: Your Community Voice, invoked the initial concept for a visual representation, Air Waves. The chair is comprised of found metal objects, welded and riveted to construct a unified piece.
A variety of different metal elements and shapes were hand-selected by the Artist with intention to adhere them to the skeletal structure of the chair and its base. The metals range from aluminum to copper to steel, and many items were chosen from public recycled sources.
Those elements were restructured to fuse a community-oriented image with a conveyance of a fluid motion in the air, capturing the power and fluidity of active radio-waves. A physical representation of community that comes together by means of art and function; the chair’s seats are accessible, actively continuing its concept.
The Artist selected by KPCW has a rich history of creating found-object sculpture and donating the works throughout the Park City community. The aesthetic of the chair is additionally reflective of those artistic involvements, sharing another ‘Community Voice’ with its listening society.
