Suspects Sought in Tervels Fire

KPCW

The Tervels Fire has burned 585 acres as of Tuesday morning, and is only 5% contained.  Investigators say the fire is human caused and an arson investigation is underway, according to the government website, utahfireinfo.gov.

The fire started around 2pm Monday, 6.5 miles northeast of Coalville off of I-80 eastbound, near the I-84 junction and Echo Reservoir.  It produced a big plume of smoke that could be seen from miles away.

No structures are threatened as of Tuesday morning.   However, Echo Creek Ranches is four miles east and firefighters put that area on pre-evacuation status.

One eastbound lane of I-80 is closed Tuesday morning for a couple of miles in the vicinity of the fire.

Many crews, including those from the Park City Fire District, North and South Summit Fire Districts, are at the scene: 9 engines, 2 heavy air tankers, 2 helicopters, 2 water tenders and 3 handcrews who can reach the fire off of established private roads.

Fire retardant was dropped on the west flank of the fire Monday.  Crews plan to work on the south and west sides Tuesday.

Fire investigators are looking for suspects.  Anyone with information should contact the Summit County Sheriff's Department.
