Sunday COVID-19 Update: Close To 800 New Cases Statewide With Only 2,660 Tests Administered

Utah saw a lower than usual amount of new cases and new tests administered Sunday, likely due to the holiday weekend.

 

Utah saw 796 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, but only reported an increase of about 2,660 tests administered. Many testing sites were closed on Christmas day. 

Summit County saw 16 new cases, and in comparison to last Sunday Summit reported 31 new cases.

The Wasatch County Health Department reported 13 new cases. Last Sunday the county saw 12.

Utah’s Department of Health reported two new deaths Sunday. To date, 1,214 Utahns have died of the disease, including five from Summit County and 15 from Wasatch County.

The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is over 24% which is up from Saturday’s average.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 62 new hospitalizations. There are 474people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, about 83% of referral center ICU beds are in use, which is down from Saturday. 

Just 68 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Saturday, bringing the total number to almost 17,000 first doses administered. The state has received more than 76,000 doses of vaccines.
