Snow and Icy Roads Cause Accidents in Park City

Park City Police Department

There were a number of snow-related accidents in Park City last week.

In one of the accidents, a car slid into a snow plow. The incident happened Thursday morning at 8, on Solamere Drive and Deer Valley.

While airbags were deployed and the reporting party couldn’t drive their vehicle away, no one was injured.

There was another accident that evening involving four vehicles on Empire Avenue.

Icy roads were the culprit of the crash, causing a truck and a trailer to jack-knife. Before officers could block off the road to clear the accident, another truck collided into the wreck.

To make matters worse, when the tow truck showed up, it also slid and crashed into the original two vehicles.

The road was closed until the area was salted. All of the people involved left unschathed and with only minor damage to their cars.

The final snow related accident happened on Guardsman Connection also known as Wheaton Way. The steep road off of Marsac Avenue is used as a more direct way to get to the Silver Lake Lodge.

During a snowstorm last Friday, a vehicle traveling on the road lost control and hit another car head on. There were minor injuries reported.

Phil Kirk, a captain at the Park City Police Department, said winter weather causes an uptick in accidents.

"You definitely see more weather related accidents or in the wintertime. Not as many as you might expect," he said. "But we do get more than we do during the normal, warmer weather months."

He said visibility, mixed with Park City’s icy and steep roads contribute to the increase in incidents.
