Park City Film Returns to In-Person Screenings, Masks Still Required

Park City Film

Park City Film will be returning to in-person film screenings for the first time in over a year on Friday.

After a whole year of cancellations and virtual film screenings, Park City Film will return to in-person events this Friday at Park City’s Santy Auditorium. Popcorn will be provided.

The first in-person film will be 2020 Sundance Film Festival favorite and multiple Academy Award nominee Minari.

Minari tells the story of a Korean family working to make it in rural America in the 1980s and features a message Park City Film Executive Director Katy Wang says is important to hear, especially after the turmoil of the past 12 months.

“It’s a story about resilience and family and what defines that place we call home,” Wang said. “We just thought it would be a great film to bring our community back together again enjoying these incredible cinematic experiences in the Santy.”

Minari will be shown on Friday and Saturday at 7:00pm and on Sunday at 6:00pm. Wang said Friday’s screening is currently sold out, but tickets are still available for both weekend screenings.

The Santy will still have COVID-19 health protocols in place, including mask and social distancing requirements, and reduced seating capacity.

“We’ll be continuing to follow all of our COVID protocols, including the mandatory wearing of masks,” said Wang. “We’ll have six feet of physical distance between each of the seat clusters in the theater, along with enhanced ventilation and cleaning measures and, of course, following our Cinema Safe guidelines, which you can check out on our website at parkcityfilm.org. For those of you who are familiar with the Santy, we have 446 seats in a normal year, but with our interest in maintaining the six feet of distance, we’re operating at 14% capacity, which means we have 65 seats available for each screening,”

Park City Film will be showing other Oscar-nominated films through May, including Judas and the Black Messiah and The Father. Virtual screenings will continue into the summer and Wang added that the outdoor film series at the Utah Olympic Park will return in 2021 after a wildly successful run last summer.
