Monday morning, Sheriff’s deputies were sorting out details around they called a “sizable” psilocybin mushroom growing operation in a Silver Springs home.
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office received a report of suspicious activity on Silver Meadows Drive. The caller reported being a property manager and said there was possible drug-related activity happening in the house.
Deputies went to the address and talked to two men there who said they were house-sitting, but didn’t go inside. Later that night, deputies reached the man listed on the lease and received permission to enter the house.
When they did, the two men who had been there earlier in the day were gone. But deputies did find a growing operation and multiple containers of mushrooms. Psilocybic mushrooms are an illegal psychedelic drug that can have a street value similar to marijuana.
The man who leased the house is out of state. He told deputies he did not know the men inside his home and no one should have been there.
The investigation is ongoing.,
