The Park City Museum is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its expansion tonight. Members and those would like to become a member are invited to join in from 5:30 to 7:30 for the annual Dungeon Party.
Museum Director Sandra Morison says they just cleared out an exhibit – so have room for the party. Drinks, hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be served. If you’re not a member, you can purchase one starting at $100 - that’s good for a year and gets four adults into the museum each visit.
While the museum had been free to locals and guests before the expansion, there is now an entrance fee. Morrison says even with the change, they’ve been able to maintain their visitation numbers.
“You know, people love history and that’s the reason why we did the expansion,” Morrison said. “We had a thousand square feet of exhibit space and 90% of the objects that we owned were in storage and nobody got to see them. And now we’re 12.00 square feet – so we’re a real attraction on Main St. a huge benefit to Park City and of course 90% of our visitors are from out of town – they’re here on vacation. We also have the changing exhibition galleries - we have about four of those per year and with the hope that will bring the locals back in.”
After the party, the museum will be bringing in a new exhibit celebrating women’s’ right to vote.
“2020 is the 100 year anniversary of the 19th amendment - so suffrage for women,” Morrison explained. “We have an exhibition from the National Women’s’ Party – who knew there was a National Women’s’ Party, but they got started in the 1910’s to advocate for the right for women to vote and so they have this traveling exhibition. It was up at Utah State University and we’ll have it through January.
