Bus Schedule Changes In Effect For Richardson Flat Park And Ride

PCMC

Park City transit has made some changes to the bus schedules for Sundance. On Thursday it was the official opening of the tunnel under Kearns Boulevard by the high school. This prompted removing the crossing beacon which makes turning left out of the high school more difficult.

Park City Transit Manager Alfred Knotts says the bus from Richardson Flat will serve the Prospector area as opposed to going to the high school. He says it offers more opportunities to access other routes which were not available from the high school.

“From there you can get on variety of different routes. You can get on the Eccles loop, the theater district and connect to Main Street express, the yellow and the red also and then the citywide runs through there in the evening and early in the morning.”

Now that the tunnel from the high school crossing under Kearns Boulevard is open, the crossing beacon has been removed. They believe changing the route to prospector will be safer than negotiating left hand turns out of the high school.

“From high school to prospector is because of safety issues the buses actually would rely on that old Hawk beacon that we removed a little too much and now that it's not there and we were concerned about the left hand turning movement coming out of there. So, we’re going to serve the Prospector area as opposed to the high school directly.”

In an earlier interview with Park City High School Principal Roger Arbabi, he told KPCW he is concerned about young, inexperienced drivers coming and going from the high school.

"I’m really worried from my perspective, when it's during lunch, or after school, the cross traffic never stops because there's no stop light and so that's going to be a problem for my kiddos getting in and out of school. I'm really worried about that, actually.
