Carolyn Murray

The Utah Department of Public Safety collects automotive crash data each year. Statewide, there were more accidents but fewer injuries. In 2018 there were 14 lives lost on Wasatch and Summit County’s roads. That’s a 6.7% decrease in roadway fatalities from 2017.

The Department of Public Safety data shows that last year, Summit County had a total of 829 crashes that resulted in property damage. 223 of them happened on Interstate 80 and 55 of them on US 40.

Looking at Park City’s entry corridors, there were 93 accidents on 224 and 69 on 248.

In Wasatch County, there were 510 crashes - 148 of them happened on U-S 40.

Even with a lower speed limit, 75 crashes were reported on Heber City’s Main Street. Another 84 accidents occurred on highway 189 through Provo Canyon.

Summit County had 127 crashes that resulted in injuries and Wasatch County had 109. The number of people who were injured isn’t available.

Last year, two people died in two different accidents in Summit County. In Wasatch County, 6 accidents left 11 people dead. Additionally, one pedestrian was killed in a collision with a vehicle.
