Christin Van Dine Appointed To Park City Planning Commission; Doug Thimm Reappointed

The Park City Council approved the reappointment of Doug Thimm and the new appointment of Christin Van Dine to the Planning Commission Tuesday. KPCW’s Emily Means has more.

Eight candidates applied for two vacant seats on the Park City Planning Commission, including Doug Thimm, who applied to keep the seat that’s he’s held since 2014. Thimm has resided in Park City for 18 years and has a background in architecture and planning.

Christin Van Dine fills the seat formerly held by Melissa Band, who became ineligible for the commission when she moved out of Park City limits. Van Dine works in the University of Utah Health Care System and has lived in Park City for 16 years. Planning Director Bruce Erickson says Van Dine’s background outside of the planning field will provide the commission with better representation of the community.

"We really hope Christin can give us a new perspective. She’s a health care professional working in the city, and she also worked as a ski patroller at one of our resorts," Erickson said. "So we were trying to broaden the Planning Commission and taking into account some of the other factors of the community, and not just folks who understood planning or land use or building and development."

Both Thimm and Van Dine’s terms on the commission end in July 2023.

Emily Means hadn’t intended to be a journalist, but after two years of studying chemistry at the University of Utah, she found her fit in the school’s communication program. Diving headfirst into student media opportunities, Means worked as a host, producer and programming director for K-UTE Radio as well as a news writer and copy editor at The Daily Utah Chronicle.
