Construction Coming To US 40 Near Mayflower

Askold Romanov

Construction of the tunnels underneath U.S. 40 near Mayflower begins Wednesday evening.

The Utah Department of Transportation or UDOT announced construction could begin on the road as early as April 1st, and is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2021.

This $19 million project includes two new bridges with crossings to the north and south of the Mayflower interchange, meaning U.S. 40 will have two roads tunneled underneath connecting the east and west side of the highway.

The two roads that will eventually run underneath U.S. 40 will be wide enough for two lanes of traffic as well as a turning lane and pedestrian walkway. UDOT says the new bridges will help reduce congestion at the highway interchange by providing additional connections for traffic. It will also provide access to new developments, such as the Mayflower Mountain Resort.

UDOT says daytime construction work will run between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Two lanes of traffic will generally be maintained in each direction during construction. However, there will be times when traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, such as during night work and paving operations.
