Crash Near Strawberry Kills One Man, Leaves Two People In Critical Condition

A head-on crash of two vehicles near Strawberry Reservoir Tuesday morning resulted in one fatality, with two other motorists in critical condition.

The Utah Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred at 9:00 am on U.S. 40, about 30 miles east of Heber, with intermittent heavy fog and the roads in very icy condition.

The UHP said a red Ford pickup pulling a trailer loaded with flooring product was eastbound. The Ford lost control, crossed over into oncoming lanes, and collided into a white GMC heading in the opposite direction. Both vehicles crashed off the north side of the highway.

The male driver of the GMC died at the scene, identified as 39-year-old Ryan Harvey of Myton. A female passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital in serious, but non-life-threatening condition.

Two male occupants in the Ford were flown to the hospital in critical condition.

Helicopters responding to the crash had to land ten miles west of the scene, due to the fog.

The Highway Patrol said the Ford may have been going too fast for existing conditions and poor tire tread may have also contributed to the crash.
