Electric Bus Charger Vandalized

Park City Municipal Corporation

The mast for the electric bus charging station at the Kimball Junction Transit Center  has been damaged and is unusable for several weeks.

The damage was reported Wednesday morning and it’s estimated to have happened between 5 and 7 o’clock that morning.

According to Park City Transportation Planning Manager Alfred Knotts, the charging station mast appears to have been struck by a high profile vehicle. They haven’t identified the culprit and are using cameras that are set up on site and adjacent properties to identify a suspect. Damage is estimated to be in excess of $10,000.

Knotts says they’re working with the manufacturer  who believes that all of the parts are on hand, which means it could take weeks to fix as opposed to months.

In the meantime, Knotts says they will have to coordinate all bus charging through the Old Town Transit Center and space the busses accordingly. They may even have to add diesel busses to the express route. The three new electric buses he says can also be charged at the Ironhorse facility overnight.
