KPCW

The Utah Department of Health announced five more COVID-19 deaths Friday, while Summit and Wasatch Counties continued their streak of single digit numbers of new cases.

Friday’s five deaths were identified as three women and two men all over the age of 65. The Health Department said two of the deaths occurred before April 1st. None of Friday's deaths were from either Summit or Wasatch Counties.

To date, 2,202 Utahns have died of COVID-19. Summit County has seen 12 of those deaths and Wasatch County counts 21 fatalities.

Statewide, the Health Department reported 338 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the statewide rolling seven-day average for positive tests down slightly to 378 per day.

Summit County reported four new cases and Wasatch County saw six. Both counties have not reported more than 10 cases in a day since April 15th.

The statewide seven-day averages for the percentage of positive laboratory tests remained steady with the people-over-people average at 6.6% and the tests-over-tests average now 3.5%. Over 5,600 people have been tested since Thursday.

145 Utahns are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, three more than Thursday. Statewide COVID-19 referral center ICUs are now 77.3% full.

Vaccinations continued across Utah with nearly 22,000 doses administered. To date, over 2.1 million doses have been administered statewide. Summit County has given out almost 40,000 doses and 82% of eligible people in the county have received at least one shot. Wasatch County has administered nearly 23,000 doses so far.
