Head-on Collision In Parley's Canyon Results In Fatality

Utah Highway Patrol

Eastbound traffic up Parley’s Canyon was severely impacted Saturday morning due to a head-on collision on I-80 near Mountain Dell.

The Utah Highway Patrol received a call around 3:30 a.m. Saturday about a driver in a Nissan SUV headed the wrong way in the I-80 eastbound lane that collided with a freightliner semi-truck. UHP reports the driver of the semi-truck changed lanes to avoid a head-on collision, and the Nissan driver did the same.

Emergency responders found the driver, a 23-year-old man from Salt Lake City, dead at the scene, partially ejected from the car and not wearing his seatbelt.

As of 10am Saturday morning, traffic was still backed up for a couple of miles before the accident site, and UDOT estimated the wreckage would be cleared by 10:15am.
