Hideout Town Council has sent an explanation for their annexation plans to the public. A press release sent out Friday from Hideout’s Town Council said the elected leaders believe the annexation is in the best interest of the town and its neighbors.
Hideout Mayor Phil Rubin said the land is needed to build services like grocery stores, gas stations and other retailers to accommodate for the more than 20,000 residential units approved, but not yet built, in the Jordanelle Reservoir.
The town council said Summit County refuses to engage in regional planning to address those issues.
The Town’s Attorney Polly McLean sent the press release.
McLean is the former Assistant Attorney of Park City. She resigned from her position in January of 2019. McLean was arrested after removing hunting equipment on public lands in the fall of 2018. She pled no contest to the criminal mischief charge and was sentenced to 12 months’ probation.
Hideout hired McLean last month. Park City Mayor Andy Beerman said in an interview with KPCW that it’s an unusual decision.
“I don't think there's any secrets behind this or anything unique Polly brings to it," Beerman said. "If they were looking to get insider information, I don't think they're gonna get it.”
Hideout will hold a public hearing on October 12 about the annexation of Richardson Flat.
