Among the incidents reported by the Summit County Sheriff’s office, a domestic violence call on Wednesday brought out a heavy response, and led to a very short lockdown notice given to schools in South Summit.
Sheriff’s Lieutenant Andrew Wright said they got a call at about 1:45 p.m. from Oakley.
The suspect was a 45-year-old husband whose whereabouts were unknown at first. Officers were told that he had threatened to shoot his wife, and possibly his children. Lt. Wright said the call brought out nine county deputies, a Highway Patrol officer and two Kamas police officers.
Given the concern over the children, the school resource officer for the South Summit District issued a lockdown. But the lieutenant said it was only in effect for 10 or 15 minutes. By then officers had contacted the suspect in Oakley and he was taken into custody.
Elsewhere, an apparent case of jealousy led to a beat-down in Coalville earlier this month. A 25-year-old resident said he was at a gas station on Main Street. He was confronted and beaten by a suspect, reportedly upset because the victim had kept company with a woman that the suspect was involved with or interested in.
The victim was struck six times in the face, which left him with a cut above his left eye. He was checked by medical personnel at the scene and cleared.
The 24-year-old suspect was not located. The case has been forwarded to investigators and the county attorney’s office.
Finally, a team of shoplifters struck at least one store in the Outlet Mall. Staffers found 34 shirts missing from their inventory. Video surveillance showed that three male suspects, and one female working together on the thefts, which took place on Sunday the 11th. The estimated value of the shirts was over $2700.
