The Park City Performing Arts Institute announced a special event scheduled for September. Two survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting will be interviewed and take audience questions during the event.
David Hogg and Jaclyn Corin are now college students. They survived the mass shooting that took place in their Parkland, Florida high school on February 14th, 2018. Seventeen students and staff were killed, and 17 others were injured during the shooting. The Park City Performing Arts Institute Executive Director, Terri Ore told KPCW this is not part of their regular programming and the students are not on a speaking tour.
“They’re going to talk about getting out to vote as a young person and why that matters. They’re going to talk about, certainly, gun control issues. They’re going to talk about civilized conversations in this country and why those need to happen, especially from young people. So, I think there’s a broad range of things they’re going to talk about, and we’re honored that they took this date with us.”
Corin, now a freshman at Harvard, was one of a handful of student activists who organized a bus trip to Tallahassee Florida just six days after the mass shooting occurred. She was a key planner in the March or Our Lives nationwide student protest movement. Corin and David Hogg, who is also at Harvard, have had many appearances on national television and news broadcasts elevating the highly political issue of gun violence.
The discussion format will include an on-stage interview and an audience Q and A.
“Ticket prices will be 29, 49 and $69. But with the same $5 student tickets and two for one for teachers and all of the things we do as if it were a regular part of our series.”
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, August 21 for members and will open to the general public on Friday, the 23rd.
