Man Charged In Connection To Crash On 224 This Spring

A Salt Lake resident is facing charges for speeding drunk down Highway 224 last spring, causing a crash for himself and another vehicle. The defendant has been summoned to appear in Summit County’s Justice Court in early December.

The charges were filed last week against 24-year-old William Russel Patton.

The Utah Highway Patrol filed a report on the incident that occurred May 23rd at about 7:30 pm.

Trooper Colton Freckleton said that two vehicles were northbound on 224, between Old Ranch Road and Bear Hollow Drive, both in the left lane.

The speeding vehicle, driven by the defendant, was a 2008 Porsche Cayenne SUV. The trooper said the vehicle in front, a Subaru Legacy, was trying to react to it.

“the vehicle that was in front of it made a lane change to avoid getting rear-ended by the vehicle that was going at a high rate of speed. As that vehicle made a lane change, the speeding vehicle made the lane change as well. Both compensating for each other and as they compensated that front vehicle actually compensated again going to the left lane then that speeding vehicle did the same thing. As he made the lane change over the left the vehicle rear-ended that front vehicle.

He said that both vehicles crashed.

“So, it looks like that Subaru Legacy after being rear-ended got pushed off to the right and it looked like it rolled approximately two times. After the Porsche rear-ended that vehicle it actually rolled onto its side and slid down the road.”

The travelers in the Subaru were not injured. The driver was a 32-year-old female, with a passenger, a 32-year-old male. Both were from Wanship.

Patton was charged with Driving Under the Influence, and Reckless Driving, both are Class B Misdemeanors. He is facing a Summons to appear in Justice Court on December 10th.
