Local grocery The Market at Park City is planning to open a second store to serve customers living in the Jordanelle Reservoir area.
The store has been open at the original Snow Creek location in Park City since 2009. Owner Mike Holm said he's opening another store at the Brown's Canyon Junction with S.R. 248 between Park City and Hideout. They plan to open for business by March 2022.
The new location will be 10,000 square feet inside and will stock all of the grocery store essentials as well as locally sourced options like Red Bicycle Bread.
"We won't be making it right in the store like they do in Park City, but we will get it out to that store by 10 or 10:30 (a.m.) on a daily basis,” Holm said. “So that's one of the features inside the store that we're excited."
Holm said the new store would possess a mountain-style design with new fixtures and concrete flooring. The building will house business offices on the second floor.
"We are also excited about the service deli there and it will have Boar's Head and good service with fresh-cut meats,” Holm said. “And we also have a grill in there and it will make hamburgers and Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and stuff that we're making there now. We're trying to see how we can get the Korean cut box in there, but we'll see how that works. We're not exactly sure. It'll kind of mimic an Emigration Market."
Holm said opening the second store will provide opportunities for employees to advance and build good careers. He's identified Skyler Bamgartner as the new store’s manager.
"Our goal is to develop more people out there,” Holm said. “We'll have produce managers and a meat manager and service manager. There will be about 20 employees, associates out there. You know that's obviously our goal. It is to develop good people and give a good paying job so that they can sustain families and be with us for a while."
Holm said permits are a little slower than expected but they’re hoping to break ground later this spring.
