Utah.gov

Saturday the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation is holding the annual Military Appreciation day. Utah’s State Parks will waive entry fees for all active military, veterans and their families.

Many of the state parks will host events and activities that will include boat parades, night sky activities and flag raising ceremonies. The list of state parks and accompanying activities will be posted with this story on KPCW.org.

Rockport State Park is offering free entrance to the Dam Jam Bluegrass event which is an acoustic jamming session at the Old Church campground below the Dam at Rockport.

Also, they’ll provide one hour of a free paddleboard, canoe or kayak rental.

Wasatch State Park Ranger and Naturalist, Kathy Donnell says they’re doing a few events on Saturday. She says usually they have a couple hundred who show up depending on the weather.

“We’ll have our yard games out and we’ll have fishing poles to rent, for free. GPS units if they want to use those. And then starting at noon, we’ll have cake and ice cream to serve.”

Wasatch and Solider Hollow golf courses are offering a bucket of complimentary range balls. Soldier Hollow is hosting the Veterans on Course event next week. While this event is full, anyone interested can go to UGA.org to find other events for veterans that are happening throughout the state.

The fee waiver applies to every state park except This is the Place Heritage Park. Any carload of active military or veteran’s and their families can get in for the day at no cost. Military Appreciation Day is this Saturday, August 10th. Find a detailed list of special events on stateparks.utah.gov
