The body of a 53 year old Salt Lake man who was hunting east of Kamas Thursday was recovered by the Summit County Sheriff’s office using a mobile app.
The name of the deceased hasn’t been released pending notification of family and completion of the investigation.
According to Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright, it was the man’s wife who contacted police when her husband – who was out deer hunting had failed to return home. He says she was able to tell deputies that he was planning to hunt on the north side of Mirror Lake Highway about four miles up.
“So, we sent deputies up there and located his vehicle, Lt. Wright said. “The wife said she had Find my Friends app on her phone, which allowed her to see his exact location and she told our deputies that his location hadn’t moved since 11 a.m.”
The app he said was very useful for locating the man.
“Without having that app and being able to pinpoint his exact location. Of course, the vehicle was found, but as you know when you get up into the wilderness, it’s very difficult to t find someone when you’re in a large area, so it was very helpful to help us locate him and bring closure to it,” said Lt. Wright.”
The app was able to lead deputies to just within feet of where they found him. It appears the man suffered a medical incident. Wright says the death does not appear to be suspicious and they will wait for the results of an autopsy.
