Monday COVID-19 Update: 246 New Cases Statewide, 2 Cases in Summit County, 6 in Wasatch

  New COVID-19 cases have been up week over week for the last three days.

 

The Utah Department of Health announced 246 new COVID-19 cases Monday, which is around 50 more cases than the state saw at the same time last week. The 7-day rolling average for new cases is 389 per day. 

In the Wasatch Back, Summit County reported two new cases, one fewer than last week. Wasatch County reported six new cases. In comparison, last Monday the county saw two new cases. 

There were 3,026 people tested for the first time statewide, with 5,212 total tests administered. On average 3% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is just over 6%. 

Utah’s Department of Health reported one new death. To date, 2,182 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 12 from Summit County and 21 from Wasatch County.

The department also reported 9 new hospitalizations. There are 157 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Around 70% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.

There were 14,019 people vaccinated for COVID-19 since Sunday, substantially more than last week when the department reported around 1,300 new vaccinations. Utah has now administered 2,053,317 doses administered. 

Summit County has administered 42,790 total vaccines and Wasatch has given out 21,428 doses.

Both counties are in the moderate level of Utah’s COVID-19 transmission index.
