Monday COVID-19 Update: Utah Case Count Continues to Decline As State Sees 859 Cases

  Utah saw its lowest daily COVID-19 case count since October, excluding holiday numbers.

The Utah Department of Health announced 859 new COVID-19 cases Monday. Excluding the day after Christmas, the last time daily cases were this low was Oct. 5.

While there were less cases, only 4,174 new tests were administered. The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is around 19%.

Summit County reported 26 new cases. In comparison, last Monday Summit County saw 21 cases.

Wasatch County reported 10 new cases. Last Monday, the county saw 23.

Utah’s Department of Health reported two new deaths. To date, 1,597 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 38 new hospitalizations. There are 459people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, around 89% of referral center ICU beds are in use. 

1,227 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Sunday, bringing the total number to 229,575 first doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties are vaccinating teachers and residents 70-years or older.
