Monday COVID-19 Update: Utah Sees Lowest Daily Case Count Since May

Utah saw less than 200 new COVID-19 cases for the first time since mid-June.

The state saw its lowest case count since the end of May on Monday. The Utah Department of Health announced 159 new cases, which is about 60 cases fewer than the state saw at the same time last week.

In the Wasatch Back, both Summit and Wasatch Counties saw slight decreases in cases week over week.

After seeing a slight spike in cases over the weekend, Summit County’s cases decreased on Monday - when the health department reported new cases five. In comparison, last Monday, Summit saw six.

Wasatch County reported one new case - down considerably from last Monday when the county saw four.

There were 2,333 people tested for the first time statewide, with around 4,144 total tests administered. On average 4% of “tests over tests” are coming back positive, while the average percent positivity for “people over people” is at 8%.

Utah’s Department of Health reported no new deaths. To date, less than 2,062 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including 11 from Summit County and 21 from Wasatch County.

The department also reported 10 new hospitalizations. There are 147 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Almost 69% of all referral center ICU beds are in use.

There were 2,496 people vaccinated for COVID-19 since Sunday, bringing the total number to 1,154,778 doses administered. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox announced last week that vaccine eligibility would open for all Utahns starting March 24.
