The Mountain Life - Zachary R. Wood - Uncensored and Why We Should Listen to Those We Disagree With

21-year old Zachary R. Wood has had a lifelong journey of Uncomfortable Learning, which is also the name of the group he heads at an elite liberal arts college. An avowed liberal democrat, he feels it's important to listen to those with opposing views, no matter what they are. When he extended an invitation to controversial white nationalists Charles Murray and John Derbyshire to speak at Williams College, there was intense outcry from the student population, and eventually Derbyshire's invitation was rescinded by the college president. He defended his invitation and while he has extreme opposition to the messages and platforms of these controversial speakers, he maintains that we need to listen to opposing views to solidify our own beliefs. His new book is Uncensored: My Life and Uncomfortable Conversations at the Intersection of Black and White America. His TED Talk, Why it's Worth Listening to People You Disagree With has had nearly 1.3 million hits.
