With No Significant Growth Saddle Fire Is Now 70% Contained

Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands

The Saddle Fire has burned 683 acres and is up to 70% contained.

The Saddle Fire is located to the north of Interlaken in the Heber Valley and has been burning since Tuesday afternoon. Strong winds sent the flames racing up the hill earlier in the week. Since that time crews have been able to slow the fire with no significant growth in acres burned since early Wednesday and containment mostly complete.

Friday's efforts to battle the flames will include two hotshot crews, two engines and one helicopter.

No structures have been threatened by the flames, but precautionary measures saw 12 homes evacuated on Tuesday, the evacuation was lifted, and the residents were able to return home Wednesday evening.

The fire was the fourth within a week in the area, Wasatch County Sheriff’s department apprehended a juvenile who they suspect started all those fires. He is believed to have acted alone.

KPCW reporter David Boyle covers all things in the Heber Valley as well as sports and breaking news.
