The Summit County Clerk’s Office has officially canvassed the votes for a ballot proposal from the North Summit Recreation District. That was the one question on the county’s November 5th ballot decided by a razor-thin margin.
The Recreation District asked their patrons for authority to set a property tax this year.
On November 5th, the proposal won by ten votes—672 in favor and 662 against. The County Clerk’s office said they received about 70 uncounted ballots for North Summit after the initial tally.
On Monday, County Clerk Kent Jones said with the final tally, the Recreation District held onto their narrow victory. They received 725 votes in favor of the tax, and 700 against.
The tally means that the third time was the charm for North Summit Recreation. Two previous attempts by the District to secure funding failed at the ballot box.
Jones said that the voting turnout for the North Summit District was a little over 47 percent.
On election day, voters also chose three members of the Park City Council and three office holders for Oakley City Council and they shot down a proposed $87 million bond for the South Summit School District.
The victory margins there were substantial enough that the outcomes likely wouldn’t be decided by uncounted ballots.
Jones said the two cities and the school district will conduct the canvasses themselves. The final results will be given to the Clerk’s office, and will be posted on their website
