Old Kimball Garage, Turned Kimball Terrace, Hosts Kimball Arts Center For Festival Opening

Kimball Arts Center

The Park City Council approved a one-time event permit for the old Kimball Garage deck on the corner of Heber and Park Avenue. The newly developed site is now called the Kimball Terrace. Developers, residents and city personnel have worked to establish mutual concessions since 2016, that would allow events to be held on the rooftop venue.

The Kimball Arts Center has city approval to hold their annual fundraising gala at the old Kimball site on August 1st, the night before the Arts Festival opening.   Communications Director, Amy Roberts says the permit allows for 250 people.

"The old Kimball on Main, which is now the Kimball Terrace, our old home, is now open and ready. We thought it would be a wonderful way to sort of honor our past and it's a nostalgic building for us. It's a little bit of a homecoming and so we're going to host our gala there this year.”

As City Planners are wrapping up the Conditional Use Permit for the space, Park City Events Manager, Jenny Diersen presented the City Council with mitigation plans for noise and traffic for this event. Park City Council member, Steve Joyce said they did a lot of outreach and he thinks the efforts have satisfied the most ardent critics.

“The public feedback we got was from Sandy Melville and he was very clear. But he said, look I'm probably the least likely person to be happy with any events going on. In fact, I wish they hadn't changed the roof line at all for that being an historic building, but with all the outreach and all the mitigation they've done he actually supported doing this as part of the Kimball Arts Festival.”

Joyce says they’ll monitor the noise output during the Thursday event and throughout the entire Arts Festival weekend. He says the Gala event will include non-amplified music and it will wrap up by 9 PM.
Joyce says they’ve arranged for guest parking under the town lift for the Thursday night Gala.

“This is really for being a big event, there's a whole lot of things to constrain its use. And then as soon as you kick, that's for Thursday, and then as soon as you kick into the Friday Saturday Sunday, then it's our normal park and rides in the high school and all those kinds of things. The Ecker parking lot.”

Roberts says the VIP lounge will be held in the same space during the weekend of the festival. She says tickets will be available shortly and they’ll have a special announcement to make soon regarding the 50th anniversary celebration year for the  Kimball Arts Festival.
