Old Mill Elementary Students Win State Stock Market Game

Wasatch County School District

Two Old Mill Elementary students were first place winners in the spring Utah Stock Market Game.

Tucker Christian and Aiden Gay, under the advice of teacher Anna Miller were this year’s elementary division winners in the Spring 2021 Utah Stock Market Game. Nearly 3200 students from across the state participated in the game, competing in  elementary, middle school and high school divisions.

The Stock Market Game is a 10 week simulation of Wall Street trading that provides a framework for Utah students to learn about the U.S. economy and financial markets.

During the game, students invested a hypothetical $100,000  in common stocks and diversified investments on the major exchanges.

10 weeks later, Christian and Gay had earned more than $10,000 besting the second place team by more than $3,000.

Students  in the middle school division topped even the high school students with the first place team pocketing more than $71,000 hypothetical dollars over the 10 weeks. They saw the Game Stop stock going up in the midst of the Game Stop short squeeze back in February to rake in some of their earnings.

The 10 week game ran from February 1st through April 9th.

** This story was updated on Monday, May 24, 2021 to reflect that the two students attend Old Mill Elementary, not Midway Elementary, as idenitifed in the press release.
