The Old Town Park City Liquor Store - located on Swede Alley - has set a reopening date of Monday, March 22, after temporarily closing in mid-January.
The store temporarily closed at the beginning of this year due to staffing shortages at all the Park City shops. Terry Wood, director of communication and public information for the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, said they were finally able to fill a key position.
"We're glad we could fill the position, and we have had some response to filling positions in the Park City area," Wood said. "So this gives us the opportunity to open the Swede Alley store again, and we're looking forward to it."
Wood said when the Swede Alley location closed, they had to move perishable products like beer to the Snow Creek location. He said now the store has to re-up their supply.
"We set the 22nd because that'll give us time to contact beer distributors," he said. "And that'll give us time to coordinate with our warehouse and shipping product up there to the store. I guess it was time to dust everything off at the same time. Make it all nice and clean."
The DABC is still looking to fill a number of other open positions around town, including three at the Snow Creek location and a couple in Kimball Junction.
A bill that passed the legislature could fix staffing issues. The bill increases the department’s budget, allowing for wage increases.
However, Wood said before employees see raises, the Department of Human Resources still has to do a study to find comparable wages.
"And as soon as they come up with a wage that they feel is fair and equitable and meets the standards of other retail businesses, we’ll institute that," he said. "But we don't have a date for that as of yet. The fiscal year starts July 1, so we're hoping that's all done before then."
In the meantime, the Swede Alley employees will return to the Old Town location March 20 to prepare for the reopening.
