Park City Man Dies After Driving On The Wrong Side Of I-80

Utah Highway Patrol

A car traveling the wrong way on I-80 resulted in the death of a Park City man Saturday night.

Around 11:40 Saturday night a silver Toyota Corolla began traveling westbound in eastbound lanes on I-80, shortly after the Corolla impacted a Ford F-250 pulling an enclosed trailer near Summit Park. Utah Highway Patrol reports the driver of the Corolla 50-year old Arturo Hernandez of Park City received fatal injuries in the collision.

The male driver and female passenger of the Ford exited the vehicle before flames engulfed the passenger compartment of the truck. The two were transported to a nearby hospital and are not believed to have life threatening injuries.

Eastbound traffic was temporarily shut down until officers on scene were able to allow vehicles to pass using the emergency lane. Crews opened all eastbound lanes approximately four hours later.

A similar incident happened on February 29th of this year when an SUV traveling westbound on eastbound I-80 lanes collided with a semi-truck. That accident occurred near Mountain Dell where the driver of the SUV was also killed while the semi-truck driver was not seriously harmed.
