Park City’s quest to win a state title fell short on Friday. With the Miners losing to the Sky View Bobcats in the championship game.
The game kicked off at 11:00 at Rice Eccles Stadium on the University of Utah’s campus, with the Park City High School band, a full student section and a large number of community supporters all in attendance.
At the games open Sky View scored three touchdowns, all runs from quarterback Kason Carlsen in the first quarter. Carlsen scored on two one-yard runs and one three yard run.
In the second quarter Park City’s defense stepped up forcing a turnover. Andrew Pederson came in on a blitz knocking the ball out of Carlsen’s hands while Carver Rodman pulled the ball out of the air to give Park City the ball near midfield. After some impressive running by Dylan Bauer Park City was set up with one yard to go to add their first points on the game. A couple plays later Park City was pushed back to the 13-yard line where the Miners threw an interception on 4th down in the endzone.
Going into the half Park City trailed 21-0.
In the third quarter number Mason Falslev rumbled in from four yards out to extend the lead to 28-0 for the Bobcats. Park City had a nice drive in the third quarter but ended with no points.
In the fourth quarter Falslev added another touchdown from about four yards out to extend the lead to 35-0 which would ultimately be the final score for the game.
The Miners end the year with a record of 13-1, and as state runners-up in the 4A division.
