Cold temperatures and snow help to launch the Park City Mountain ski season. KPCW has an update on
some of the new things to see at the resort this year. Carolyn Murray has this:
Park City Mountain Chief Operations Officer, Bill Rock said they’re excited for the early snow and cold weather. He said the snow making operation is providing high quality conditions and new facilities and terrain add to the enthusiasm this ski season.
Park City Mountain base lifts are running as well as the Canyons Gondola. The new High Meadow beginner area on the mid-mountain is open.
“On the Canyons side, the new High Meadow lift and High Meadow beginner area will be showcased. That’ll open as well as Saddleback, so you’ll have to download Red Pine Gondola. But, again, great way to ski Kokapelli, ski the new High Meadows, ride the new lift, see what’s happened up there in the off season. Yeah, the goal is to get great skiing as soon as possible and obviously make connections to key lifts, especially in anticipation of big snow storms. If we can get snow made to the bottom of some lifts, we can get the lift going when we get a nice storm. Some of our snow making improvements this year, especially Red Pine Road, really helps us expand our offering early with snow making and then like I said anticipate some of these bigger storms and get some of our more advanced terrain open because we’ve got these connectors made with snow making.
Rock said they plan to expand terrain soon and they’re very close to opening Tombstone at the Canyons and Bonanza at Park City along with other higher elevation trails.
They’ve renovated two restaurants this past summer with additional seating and new features.
“Cloud Nine Restaurant on the Canyons side on top of Dream Catcher there, is one of the most popular restaurants on the mountain and we’ve added 200 seats. And so, there’s more capacity. Certainly, it’s a busy place. The people love it there but the food’s fantastic. The view’s amazing. And the new addition certainly unlocks another view from the top of that ridge. And then, Mid-Mountain Lodge had a complete transformation. I’m so excited about this renovation. First of all, its great food quality, a re-vamped menu. Totally renovated inside and a full service bar added to it and so if you walk in if you go immediately to the right and there’s a room and we’ve been able to get that licensed and it actually has a section out on the deck too where we’ve got new fire pits and built in where it’s going to feel very…you know it’s going to be a great outdoor space. People are going to love being there.”
He said they took the Mid-Mountain lodge back to the original white color which was a result of feedback from the community.
They hope to open the renovated lodge soon, which will depend on snow and lift connections.
The Epic Pass is still available until early December.

Parking at the base is still free. Rock said they had positive feedback from the parking operation last year. He said they don’t have any plans right now to develop the lower Park City Mountain lots.
