Park City Peace House Goes Virtual For Fundraiser This Week

Peace House

For Park City Peace House, their biggest  fundraiser is the annual Spring Luncheon.

But that is not possible this year, so the organization will hold a virtual event this Thursday.

Organizers Julie Joyce and Katie Margolis said that to join the fundraiser on May 7th, you can go online to “peacehouse.org.”

They’ve already posted some videos for the occasion.   They said all of them will on the site by Thursday morning.

Last year’s luncheon raised $150,000 for the Peace House.    This year, the Marriott Daughters Foundation has agreed to match the next $50,000 they raise.

In the meantime, the Peace House said they have received grants from Park City Municipal and the Park City Community Foundation to deal with COVID-related needs.

And Margolis added that they’ve seen an increase in calls for help, due to the strains of the coronavirus shutdown and the Stay At Home order.

“I think that the calls that we’re getting in right now are of even much higher crisis than ever before.  We do have at least 25 percent to 30 percent more calls coming in.   And we are at capacity as far as the shelter goes.   The other piece of this is that the clients are staying much longer than they used to, because there’s really nowhere else for them to go with the COVID-19 virus.”

They said the Peace House has received donations of  some other housing locations to help out domestic abuse victims.

Joyce and Margolis also said they have not had any COVID cases among those staying at the Peace House.    The facility is following County Health guidelines and 75 percent of their staff is working from home.
