Park City Taking Steps To Annex City-owned Property In Summit County

After recently updating Park City’s annexation policy plan and expansion map, Park City Municipal is moving forward with the next steps toward bringing land into city limits. 

Park City Planning Director Bruce Erickson says, currently, the city is only considering annexing two pieces of city-owned property and property unintended for development within unincorporated Summit County.

“Right now, we're only considering annexation on the two pieces of property that the city owns in Summit County, which is at Clark Ranch out on U.S. 40, and then some properties to the north end of Round Valley,” Erickson said.

Erickson says there are many steps required by state code in the annexation process. First, the city needed to approve updates to its annexation expansion area and policy plan. The city council adopted the new plan on Sept. 12, after the Park City Planning Commission held two public hearings on it. The new plan was expanded to include areas within Round Valley and Quinn’s Junction as well as Bonanza Flat. The city council authorized on Tuesday a $39,000 contract with Alliance Engineering to analyze future cost estimates for providing city services to the areas and do additional surveying.

Erickson says the city isn’t yet moving to annex Bonanza Flat. Since it’s in Wasatch County, the city would require the approval of the Wasatch County Council to annex the area.

“I think with the shift in personnel, the staff has been having those conversations," Erickson said. "But the high-level elected official conversations have kind of slowed down.”

Land within Park City’s new annexation expansion area is either development-restricted or protected open space.
